25 Police Personnel Transferred in North Tripura Amid Cleansing Drive

BY TC News Desk

Agartala, 4th December 2025 :   The North Tripura district police administration has launched a “cleansing initiative” aimed at strengthening law and order and intensifying the fight against narcotics. As part of this drive, Superintendent of Police (SP) Avinash Rai ordered the transfer of 14 police personnel in a single day, including three sub-inspectors (SIs) and 11 constables.

This latest reshuffle is part of a broader series of transfers in recent weeks. On November 19, four SIs and two assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) were reassigned. Just days later, on November 23, four Special Police Officers (SPOs) were transferred, followed by the removal of Panisagar Officer-in-Charge Sumanta Bhattacharjee on November 25. In total, 25 officers have been shifted within a span of 15 days.

Officials believe the move will help curb crime, strengthen anti-narcotics operations, and restore discipline within the force. The administration hopes the initiative will make police functioning more transparent and dynamic.

The reshuffle comes against the backdrop of mounting allegations that some officers had developed questionable ties with middlemen, drug traffickers, and smuggling networks. Reports of involvement in illegal trade including cannabis, cattle, yaba tablets, Phensedyl, and brown sugar had sparked public anger and eroded trust in several police stations.

There are also accusations that certain officers misused their positions to accumulate illicit wealth while on duty. In response, SP Rai took decisive action to protect the integrity of the force and the department’s image.

Many within the police ranks and local residents have welcomed the move, describing it as the “beginning of a cleansing process.” One senior officer remarked, “Complaints had been piling up for a long time. The SP has finally taken a fair and necessary decision.”
