Agartala, February 08, 2023: CPIM’s former Rajya Sabha MP Brinda Karat on Wednesday campaigned for an independent candidate Puroshuttam Roy Barman at Kazi Para area under 7-Ramnagar assembly constituency.

While addressing the gathering, Karat said “Tripura people is having an opportunity to oust this BJP-led government. This ruling party has destroyed the beautiful state in the name of ‘Double Engine’ which was designed by the previous Left Front government.”

Citing the seat-adjustment issue of CPIM and Congress ahead of assembly polls, Karat said “All the secular democratic forces had arrived in one platform to fight against BJP. We also listened to this call. There might be differences in ideologies, politics, etc. But to save the state from BJP, we have kept our division aside.”

Taking a dig at BJP, Karat alleged “BJP don’t follow our constitution. In 1950, when Dr BR Ambedkar drafted the constitution of India, an undemocratic force reluctant to accept it and rather demanded for a constitution based on religions. Thereafter, RSS had been trying enough to change the character of the entire country. Since 2014, this force had staged attack on every issue, question and secularism.”

She also raised allegation against Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government for supporting Adani. She claimed that this central government is making untiring efforts to break the unity of poor people and help the capitalists to become richer.

She also highlighted the setbacks of Tripura and its people in last five years. “BJP lured the voters for employment before 2018 polls in the name of miss call. Under MGNREGA scheme, 40 mandays work is being done. Government failed to implement 7th CPC. Rather, 11,000 employees lost their jobs, 20,000 teachers have been terminated, schools have been privatized.”

“After the formation of BJP-led government, ‘Gunda Bahini’ and ‘Bike Bahini’ were given the license to create disturbances, attacking people and torturing the girls and women across the state. If a case is registered by the victims then BJP leaders stand by the side of violence creators”, she also alleged.

Highlighting some of the major points in CPIM’s manifesto, Karat said “BJP had cancelled more than one lakh pensioners’ names from the list, their rights of pensions will be ensured after we form government. Terminated 10,323 teachers will get back their jobs. Old Pension Scheme will be re-introduced. 200 mandays ensured, introduce Urban Employed Guarantee Scheme, etc. Tripura will be revitalized following Kerala model. Our dream is to set up a government by the people.”
