Three arrested with drugs worth Rs 2.5 crore in Dharmanagar

Agartala, 15th December 2025:  In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Tripura Police on Thursday seized a large consignment of narcotics worth around ₹2.5 crore and arrested three women near Dharmanagar Railway Station in North Tripura district.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team from Dharmanagar Police Station carried out a special operation in the station’s adjoining area. North District Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai said the operation led to the recovery of 44,000 Yaba tablets, believed to have a black-market value of approximately ₹2.5 crore.

The arrested women have been identified as Mafia Begum (45) of the Hospital Road area under Sonamura Police Station in Sepahijala district, Ankuri Bibi (40) of the Silghati area under Kakraban Police Station in Gomati district, and Hafia Begum (55), also a resident of the Kakraban Police Station area in Gomati district.

According to preliminary investigations, the accused were allegedly transporting the Yaba tablets aboard a Silchar–Agartala passenger train. After the seizure, they were taken to Dharmanagar Police Station for interrogation.

Police said further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other members of the drug trafficking network. The operation was conducted in the presence of Sub-Divisional Police Officer Jayata Karmakar, Officer-in-Charge of Dharmanagar Police Station Meena Debbarma, DCM, and other security personnel.
