Agartala, 15th December 2025:  Political tension flared up in the North Maharani area under Mungiakami block following a protest march organized by the Youth Tipra Federation (YTF), the youth wing of Tipra Motha.

According to sources, the protest was conducted with prior police permission, but the situation allegedly spiraled out of control during the course of the march.

Local sources claim that the procession deliberately moved towards the under-construction residence of Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma. It is alleged that a section of the protesters entered the minister’s residential premises and attempted to halt the construction work, leading to a highly tense situation at the site.

Eyewitnesses reported that the sudden escalation caused panic among the laborers working at the construction site. Fearing for their safety, the workers fled the area, forcing a temporary suspension of the construction work.

Meanwhile, YTF supporters have put forward counter-allegations, claiming that a Tipra Motha supporter, identified as Shankar Debbarma, was injured in an attack by BJP workers in the Chakmaghat area. They stated that the protest intensified in response to this incident. Protesters also alleged that their demonstration was linked to accusations concerning Minister Bikash Debbarma’s property.

Despite the march being held with police permission, serious questions have been raised over how protesters were able to enter the minister’s premises and create such a volatile situation.

The incident, which occurred in the presence of police personnel, has sparked widespread debate regarding administrative oversight and the role of the police in maintaining law and order.

The incident has triggered intense political speculation across the state. With the situation remaining sensitive, attention is now focused on what steps the administration will take in the coming days to address the issue.
