Agartala, 16th December 2025: A tragic incident took place at Gournagar Gram Panchayat’s Ward No. 5 under Chandipur constituency, where a youth from Dharmanagar drowned in the Manu River while bathing this afternoon.
The missing youth, identified as Kutu (nickname), hails from the Rajbari area of Dharmanagar. Local sources informed that he had come with two friends from Agartala to visit relatives at Chhantaile. While bathing in the river, the strong current swept them away. Locals managed to rescue the two Agartala youths, but Kutu was carried off by the river.
Fire service personnel, civil defense volunteers, and local divers launched a search operation, but no trace of the youth was found till evening. DCM Sanjib Debbarma confirmed that rescue efforts would continue through the night.
The incident has sparked shock and grief across the area, with residents believing the strong current dragged the youth away.
