Agartala, 18th December 2025:  A construction project meant to build a 300-meter-long RCC drain in Tufania Lunga Tea Garden has turned into a controversy after the drain was reportedly completed at a different location, measuring only about 50 meters.

According to official project details, the drain was sanctioned from the residence of Raju Adhikari to the house of Khokan Tanti under North Laxilunga Gram Panchayat, Bamutia Block. The estimated cost of the project was Rs 2,41,115, with a planned length of approximately 300 meters. However, residents allege that the actual construction took place elsewhere, covering barely 50 meters.

This discrepancy has triggered widespread discussion across the tea garden. Locals claim they were unaware of the project, its execution, or even who carried out the work. Sources suggest the Panchayat was responsible for the construction, but no clear explanation has been provided regarding the change of location or reduction in length.

Community members are now questioning whether financial irregularities or administrative lapses played a role. The lack of transparency has fueled suspicions of corruption, with villagers demanding accountability from the Panchayat and Block authorities.

As one observer put it, the situation reflects the famous Hindi song line “Kaahi pe nigahein, kaahi pe nishana” — eyes set on one target, but the strike landing elsewhere.

The matter remains unresolved, with locals awaiting clarification from the concerned departments on whether the original 300-meter drain will ever be constructed.
