Agartala,  19th December 2025:    The alleged murder of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu youth from Mymensingh, Bangladesh, has drawn strong reactions from political leaders in Tripura, highlighting concerns about the safety of minorities in the region.

Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, royal scion of Tripura and founder of Tipra Motha, claimed that Das was brutally assaulted and set on fire, describing the incident as a reflection of rising hostility towards minorities in Bangladesh. Debbarma also criticized political parties for remaining silent on the issue.

Addressing allegations that his party supporters are “goondas,” Debbarma said, “Tipra Motha members have been verbally attacked outside the Indian Embassy and accused of dividing the North East whenever we speak against cross-border violence. Speaking against injustice should not be equated with hooliganism. The real threat is those spreading violence and hatred.”

Meanwhile, Tripura’s SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das referenced reports indicating the attack may have originated from a dispute in a garment shop. He stated that the victim was allegedly accused of insulting religion, labeled an “Indian broker,” and later lynched.

“He was reportedly tied to a tree and set on fire, allegedly even in the presence of law enforcement officials,” the minister said, describing the incident as deeply disturbing and urging a comprehensive investigation.
