Agartala, 23rd December 2025: With Christmas just hours away, the city has embraced the festive mood. Streets and shops are adorned with colorful lights, Santa hats, cakes, and decorative items, creating a cheerful atmosphere. Yet, traders say this year’s Christmas market has failed to draw the usual crowds.
Shopkeepers across small and large outlets have stocked up on seasonal goods, but sales remain slow. Vendors report that compared to previous years, the number of buyers has dropped significantly. One trader explained that rising prices have left customers hesitant: “People are struggling financially, so purchases are fewer.” Another shopkeeper pointed to the growing influence of online shopping, which he believes has diverted many buyers away from traditional markets.
The lack of footfall has left business owners worried. Many are waiting in hope that last-minute shoppers will arrive on Christmas Eve to boost sales. Traders remain optimistic that the festive rush will pick up before midnight, helping restore some normalcy to the season’s business.
