Agartala, 24th December 2025: Under the chairmanship of Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman, the second preparatory meeting for the traditional Poush Sankranti Fair was held at Bot Tola, Sonamura today. The meeting followed the first round of discussions with all relevant administrative officials at the fairground earlier this month.
After the meeting, Minister Barman stated that the Battala fair is organized annually to mark Poush Sankranti, and the number of pilgrims and visitors has been steadily increasing each year. To ensure the fair is conducted in a more organized, safe, and orderly manner, the administration has been holding multiple rounds of meetings.
He further announced that a third round of discussions will take place next month. Wednesday’s meeting reviewed the progress of responsibilities and directives assigned to various departments during the first phase, assessing how far they have been implemented and the timeline for completion.
In addition, it was unanimously decided to invite the Governor as the chief guest for this year’s fair, with the expectation that he will inaugurate the event.
The second preparatory meeting was attended by Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman, MLA Rampada Jamatia, Sepahijala Additional District Magistrate Upendra Jamatia, Zilla Parishad President Supriya Das Datta, Sonamura SDM Raju Deb, Nalchar Block Chairman Swapan Kumar Das, along with officials from various departments.
