Agartala, 24th December 2025:   A large check dam has been constructed in the Bruha Para area under Jiolchhara village, nestled at the foothills of Atharo Mura, with financial support from the Forest Department. The project, completed in the 2024–25 fiscal year, aims to address local water scarcity and promote fish farming as a means of self-reliance.

Bruha Para is home to many Reang refugees who migrated from Mizoram. The government has since rehabilitated around 440 families in the area, paving the way for various development initiatives.

Forest Department officials from the Ambassa Range stated that the dam spans nearly three kanis of land. Officer Haradhan Pal emphasized that such projects are part of a broader effort to improve living conditions and that similar dams may be built in the future to further support development.

Local residents expressed satisfaction with the benefits of the dam, noting improved access to water and opportunities for fish farming. However, they also highlighted certain challenges, including the need for better roads and stairways to access the reservoir. Residents remain hopeful that the government will address these issues soon, while acknowledging the significant advantages the dam has already brought to their community.
