Agartala, 25th December 2025 : Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that youth need to focus more on sports activities to become disciplined, hardworking, and self-confident in achieving their ambitions.
Dr. Saha made the remarks while addressing the Sansad Khel Mahotsav 2025 at the Dasarath Deb State Sports Complex, Badharghat, Agartala, today.
He said that earlier no one could have imagined such sporting events.
“Events like Har Ghar Tiranga were also successful. Whatever initiatives are being taken, including 75 Gaon, Veer Ke Naam, we can’t even think on the scale of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also launched Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam. These are not just slogans but initiatives to connect with our land and country. He also launched Pariksha Pe Charcha just to encourage children and sportspersons. This Sansad Khel Mahotsav was started with the same objective. It began in September and today marks its conclusion,” he said.
He said that today also marks Good Governance Day on the birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. When Vajpayee was Prime Minister, he worked tirelessly for the youth and promoted sports across the country.
“Prime Minister Modi has interacted with sportspersons from four states. Indigenous games that we had forgotten are now getting recognition and even a place in the Olympics. PM Modi has spoken with sportspersons from Haryana, Tamil Nadu, and Darjeeling. He interacted with them in a very simple manner and encouraged them. If children are not engaged in sports, their brain development will not be proper. Parents must encourage their children to take up sports. Sports also help people remain stress-free. A healthy mind resides in a healthy body,” said Dr. Saha.
Dr. Saha further said that Prime Minister Modi has also spoken about hosting the Commonwealth Games 2030 in Gujarat.
“Merit comes first. In sports, merit is essential. Coaches are also very important. Meditation is needed in sports along with practice. Sansad Khel is a platform for sportspersons and students, which will be beneficial for them. We are also working to eradicate the menace of drugs,” he added.
