Agartala, 28th December 2025: Tripura BJP General Secretary Bipin Debbarma on Sunday said Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha is personally monitoring the Angel Chakma murder case in Uttarakhand and is ensuring continuous coordination with the state government to see that justice is served.
Calling the incident tragic and heartbreaking, Debbarma said the death of the young student has caused widespread grief across Tripura.
“The incident of December 9 has deeply affected all of us. I offer my prayers for Angel Chakma and extend my condolences to his family during this difficult time,” he said.
Angel was pursuing higher education in Uttarakhand, and the circumstances surrounding the incident are extremely disturbing, Debbarma noted. He added that Dr Saha has already spoken to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and stressed the need for strict action against the culprits.
“The Chief Minister of Tripura has made it clear that those responsible will not be spared. The Uttarakhand Chief Minister has also publicly addressed the issue on X and assured firm action,” he said.
Debbarma further stated that politicising the issue was unnecessary and unfair, adding that the government remains focused on development and governance.
“Students from Tripura and the entire North East study in Uttarakhand. Such incidents should never occur. The Tripura government is fully committed to pursuing this matter administratively, and the Uttarakhand government has also assured full cooperation,” he added.
Angel Chakma, an MBA student, died after an alleged racially motivated attack in Dehradun. He and his brother Michael were reportedly assaulted by a group of men near a liquor outlet on December 9, following alleged racial abuse. Angel later succumbed to his injuries on Friday.
