Agartala, 2nd January 2026: A preparatory meeting was held today at the Secretariat to plan the organization of a state-wide ‘Red Ribbon Football Tournament’ (Men’s and Women’s) across Tripura. The tournament is being initiated by the Tripura State AIDS Control Society with the objective of spreading awareness about HIV among the youth through sports.
The meeting took place at the Video Conference Hall of the Secretariat under the chairmanship of Health Department Secretary Kiran Gitte. Present at the meeting were Director of Health and Family Welfare Dr. Debashree Debbarma, Project Director of the State AIDS Control Society Dr. Binita Chakma, AGMC Medical Superintendent Dr. Bidhan Goswami, along with senior officials from the Youth Affairs and Sports Department and other related departments.
Additionally, Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) of all eight districts, District AIDS Control Officers, and other district-level officials participated in the meeting virtually.
Discussions during the meeting focused on the organizational framework of the Red Ribbon Football Tournament, coordination mechanisms, allocation of responsibilities, and the role of sports in enhancing HIV awareness among the youth. It was decided that the state-level Red Ribbon Football Tournament (Men’s and Women’s) would be organized in the coming days across Tripura.
The final matches of the tournament will be held at the Umakanta Mini Stadium in Agartala.
Addressing the meeting, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte expressed hope that the tournament would significantly strengthen health awareness and social messaging among the youth of the state.
