Agartala, 5th January 2026:  Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has announced that in the next two years, Tripura is poised to emerge as one of India’s top tourist destinations, with the number of foreign visitors rising steadily each year.

The Minister made these remarks at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the development of the Tripura Heritage Village & Sangeet Experience under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 initiative, alongside the inauguration of a new amusement park at Sachindranagar, Jirania, in West Tripura.

Since the formation of the current government, significant steps have been taken to strengthen the state’s tourism sector, he said.

“We are proud to collaborate with the Government of India and the Asian Development Bank, who have invested substantial funds across various parts of Tripura. Today, in Sachindranagar, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha laid the foundation stone for the Tripura Heritage Village & Sangeet Experience under Swadesh Darshan 2.0, as well as an amusement park funded by SIDBI and the Government of India,” the Minister stated.

Highlighting Tripura’s vast tourism potential, he added, “We firmly believe that Tripura will become a major tourism hub, not only in the North East but across the country. Our goal is to showcase the state to visitors from India and abroad, while developing modern infrastructure in every corner of Tripura.”

He further noted, “The Tourism Department, in partnership with the Government of India and other agencies, is implementing several projects across the state. Within the next two years, these initiatives will be completed, positioning Tripura as a premier tourist destination. At present, Tripura ranks second in foreign tourist arrivals in the North East, after Sikkim—a very encouraging achievement. Domestic tourism is also witnessing rapid growth.”
