Agartala, 10th January 2026: Residents of Shantipara in Ambassa town have long endured severe waterlogging during the monsoon, with knee-deep water flooding homes and disrupting daily life even after moderate rainfall.
Local sources said that while one side of the main road in the area already has a covered drain, the absence of drainage on the opposite side has left several houses inundated each year. For years, residents have been demanding a permanent solution to the recurring problem.
Responding to these concerns, authorities have now initiated plans to construct a covered drain on the other side of the road. On Saturday, Ward Councillor Deepa Deb visited Shantipara to review preparations and assess the overall situation. During her inspection, she examined the drainage system, road conditions, and potential sites for construction, while also holding discussions with departmental officials.
Councillor Deb assured residents that the decision was taken keeping in mind their long-standing grievances. “Work on the covered drain will begin very soon, and once completed, the problem of waterlogging during the monsoon will be significantly reduced,” she said.
