One-day national seminar held at GDC, Santirbzar

Agartala, 11th January 2026:   Government Degree College (GDC) Santirbazar successfully conducted a One-Day National Seminar on January 09, 2026, on the theme “Literature Across Time and Tradition: Creativity, Partition, and Folklore in Literary Imagination.” Organised jointly by the Department of English and the Department of History, the event brought together academicians, researchers, and students to explore the vital intersections of history, cultural memory, and literary expression.

The seminar was inaugurated by the Patron and Principal-in-Charge, Dr Sanjoy Das, with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. In his welcome address, Organising Secretary Rakesh Sen set the academic tone for the day, describing literature as a living record of human creativity and emphasising the importance of preserving the narratives of Partition and folklore. Dr Dipak Hrishi Das, Secretary of the Teacher Council, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the value of such interdisciplinary collaborations for the college’s academic environment.

The plenary sessions featured distinguished resource persons who offered diverse perspectives. Dr Anamika Nath, Assistant Professor at Tezpur Medical College and creative writer in English, delivered the Keynote Address, uniquely bridging the worlds of medical science and creative writing. Renowned scholar Dr Bhaskar Roy Barman joined virtually as the Chief Guest, sharing expertise on international literary trends and folk culture, while Plenary Speaker Dr Sajal Nama discussed the socio-political dimensions of Partition, grounding the literary discussions in historical reality.

The academic rigour continued into the afternoon with two simultaneous technical sessions. Scholars presented a variety of research papers covering a wide spectrum of topics, ranging from pedagogical challenges in English classrooms and the ethnomedicinal values of indigenous plants to the sociological impacts of migration in Tripura. Lively discussions were held regarding the preservation of Reang (Bru) traditions and the significance of oral literature in maintaining community identity.

The seminar concluded with a Valedictory Session where certificates were distributed to participants. Joint-Organising Secretary Raju Debnath delivered the Vote of Thanks, acknowledging the success of the event in fostering a deeper appreciation for the region’s rich literary and historical heritage.
