Agartala, 13th January 2026 : The Mizo Convention Youth Wing (MCYW), Jampui Hills, has announced the launch of a community-based cleanliness drive titled “Clean Jampui Hills,” set to begin on January 18. The initiative aims to protect the region’s natural beauty, environmental cleanliness, and cultural values, as Jampui Hills is widely regarded as the cleanest area in Tripura.
Located in the North District of Tripura, Jampui Hills is the highest hill range in the state and is renowned for its scenic landscapes, pleasant climate, and rich cultural heritage. The area attracts a growing number of tourists for trekking, sunrise and sunset views, and interactions with the Lushai and Mizo tribal communities.
In a press release, MCYW Jampui Hills President Lalduhsanga Thangluah and General Secretary Vanrokima Royte stated that the steady rise in tourist footfall, while reflecting the region’s popularity, has also led to serious challenges affecting both the environment and local life.
They pointed out that improper waste disposal has become a major concern, with plastic bottles, disposable plates, and other waste littering gardens, roadsides, and public spaces. The organisation also highlighted increasing noise pollution caused by loud music from vehicles and tourist gatherings, which has disrupted church services and disturbed the peaceful lives of residents, particularly the elderly and the sick.
Another significant issue raised was the open consumption of alcohol and other intoxicating substances along roadsides and in public places. According to MCYW, such behaviour creates a sense of insecurity for women and children and goes against the social values and cultural traditions of the local community.
Through the Clean Jampui Hills initiative, MCYW aims to promote responsible tourism, encourage community participation in cleanliness efforts, and preserve the tranquillity and reputation of Jampui Hills as Tripura’s cleanest tourist destination.
The youth organisation has appealed to residents, visitors, and well-wishers to actively support and take part in the programme. MCYW expressed confidence that collective responsibility and cooperation will help ensure that Jampui Hills continues to stand as a symbol of natural beauty, cultural pride, and environmental discipline.
