Agartala, 15th January 2026: A group of job seekers aspiring for the post of Multi-Purpose Health Worker (MPW) staged a protest at the premises of the Health Department in Agartala today, demanding immediate recruitment.
Recruitment for MPW posts in Tripura has remained stalled since 2024, leaving hundreds of trained ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) graduates anxious as many are crossing the upper age limit for government jobs. Despite repeated attempts, the aspirants said they failed to secure a meeting with the Chief Minister to press their demands.
The protesters today surrounded the Health Department office and, in a symbolic gesture, knelt before a flex banner carrying the Chief Minister’s photograph, pleading for urgent recruitment. They pointed out that the last recruitment drive in 2024 appointed only 98 candidates, while more than 1,200 MPW posts remain vacant.
As tensions escalated, the demonstrators locked the office gates in frustration. Police later arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.
The protest comes against the backdrop of the state government’s repeated claim that under the “double-engine government,” job seekers need not resort to agitation. However, today’s demonstration highlighted the growing desperation among unemployed youths, many of whom broke down in tears while demanding employment.
