Agartala, 29th January 2026:  Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath today said that the Power Department is working to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to consumers, with the aim of becoming the best-performing state in the country.

The minister was speaking after distributing e-bicycles among 30 ASHA facilitators at a programme jointly organised by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) today at  TSECL Corporate Office.

Praising the engineers of the department, the minister said they are highly capable and committed.

“We must work together. No work can be done without power, and we must focus on clean and green energy. Through solar power, we are providing water supply in 25 villages. We are now stressing more on solar energy. We are not claiming to be the first in power supply, but currently Tripura stands fourth in India. Our main goal is to become number one in the country by ensuring proper and 24×7 power supply,” he said.

The minister explained that generating power through water costs between Rs 7 crore to Rs 20 crore per megawatt, while gas-based power generation costs Rs 5 crore to Rs 10 crore per megawatt. In comparison, solar power generation costs around Rs 4 crore per megawatt.

“If we install solar power everywhere, we can become number one in India. Solar pumps have been installed over nearly 38,000 kani of land, ensuring water availability for the next 25 years without any concern. Now people are earning from solar power and also getting zero electricity bills,” he added.

Power Minister also lauded the tireless efforts of ASHA workers and described them as warriors of society.

“I want to thank our ASHA workers for going door to door to ensure vaccination for children and for their continuous service to the community. We must stand by them. There are many people in society who work silently—these are the real warriors,” he said.
