Agartala, 9th February 2026 : Serious allegations of corruption have surfaced over the approval of an ‘Amrit Sarovar’ project in the Patichhari ADC Village area under Bogafa RD Block of Santirbazar subdivision in South Tripura district. Questions are being raised over how the project was sanctioned in the name of a deceased person, allegedly in violation of existing laws and government guidelines.
In connection with the allegations, MDC Padma Lochan Tripura of Patichhari Village, accompanied by a delegation of local residents, submitted a written complaint to the District Magistrate of South Tripura on Monday, demanding a fair and impartial investigation into the matter.
According to the complaint, an ‘Amrit Sarovar’ project worth approximately ₹62,73,050 was approved in the name of Premnanda Murasingh (deceased), son of late Haripada Murasingh. The charge sheet states that sanctioning a government project in the name of a deceased individual is completely illegal and contrary to prescribed norms.
The complaint further alleges that the family of late Premnanda Murasingh is not even a permanent resident of Patichhari ADC Village, raising serious questions about how the project was approved in their name and on their land.
Sources said that three ‘Amrit Sarovar’ projects are currently being implemented in the Santirbazar assembly constituency under the supervision of Narayan Jamatiya, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the South Zonal Forest Department. Allegations have also been made that in the past, several check dams and similar projects were executed with the approval of the District Magistrate, where transparency was reportedly lacking. Locals have demanded an inquiry to identify those involved in preparing and approving such resolutions.
Residents have also raised doubts over the alleged role of certain Forest Department officials, office staff, Panchayat representatives and individuals close to the local MLA. People are questioning whether there was any hidden understanding or undisclosed agreement behind the approval of these projects, prompting calls for a comprehensive investigation into all projects sanctioned by the District Magistrate.
The complaint additionally alleges that heavy mechanical equipment, including dozers, were used during project implementation, which is strictly prohibited under MGNREGA guidelines. It has been claimed that video evidence of such violations exists and will be submitted to the administration if required.
The issue has triggered widespread anger and concern among local residents and various concerned quarters. As the matter directly involves public funds and public interest, an immediate and impartial investigation has been strongly demanded.
MDC Padma Lochan Tripura has urged the District Magistrate of South Tripura to conduct a thorough probe into the alleged irregularities and take appropriate legal action against all those involved in the illegal approval and execution of the project.
