Agartala, 10th February 2026 : In a moment of pride for Tripura and the North Eastern region, Debashis Majumder, President of Yuva Vikash Kendra, was conferred with the prestigious Dr. S. N. Subba Rao Memorial National Youth Award 2026 for his outstanding contribution to youth development and social transformation. The award, jointly instituted by SEABA International Public School and the National Youth Project, New Delhi, was presented by Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Chima at a ceremonial programme held in Leheragaga, Punjab.
The award ceremony coincided with the 97th Birth Anniversary of Dr. S. N. Subba Rao Ji (Bhai Ji), a towering figure in India’s youth movement and voluntary action. The occasion added special significance to the recognition, as Shri Majumder’s work closely reflects the ideals of service, social harmony and nation-building championed by Dr. Subba Rao.
The national honour acknowledges Majumder’s sustained leadership in empowering youth and marginalised communities, particularly in the rural, tribal and remote areas of Tripura and other North Eastern states. Through a holistic development approach, he has worked extensively in the areas of rural livelihood, education, health awareness, environmental conservation and cultural preservation.
Under his leadership, Yuva Vikash Kendra has grown into a vibrant grassroots organisation implementing integrated farming and fisheries projects, skill development and entrepreneurship programmes, women-led livelihood initiatives, and community-based natural resource management. These initiatives have not only generated sustainable income opportunities but also strengthened community participation and self-reliance.
A notable dimension of Majumder’s work has been his emphasis on safeguarding indigenous culture, traditional knowledge systems and local art forms, ensuring that development remains inclusive and culturally rooted. He has also played a key role in nurturing village- and block-level youth leadership, motivating young people to engage in voluntary service and nation-building.
Expressing gratitude after receiving the award, Majumder dedicated the honour to his family, mentors, colleagues and the entire Yuva Vikash Kendra team. “This recognition strengthens my resolve to expand youth-led development initiatives across the North East,” he said.
Widely regarded as one of the most respected national honours in youth development, the Dr. S. N. Subba Rao Memorial National Youth Award celebrates individuals committed to social change. Shri Debashis Majumder’s achievement stands as an inspiration for young leaders across India to work towards inclusive and sustainable development.
