Agartala, 10th February 2026 : In a major push towards building a future-ready workforce, the Government of Tripura on Sunday inaugurated advanced skill development programmes under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0, in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and its Technology Innovation Hub, IHFC IIT Delhi, at National Institute of Technology Agartala.
The initiative marks a significant milestone in Tripura’s skill ecosystem, focusing on cutting-edge domains such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Blockchain and other emerging technologies, aligned with current and future industry requirements.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi in the presence of Kiran Gitte, IAS, Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Government of Tripura, and Prof. Sarat Kumar Patra, Director, NIT Agartala, among other dignitaries. The event witnessed participation from senior academicians, industry leaders, students and officials from partner institutions.
Under this flagship initiative, IHFC IIT Delhi will conduct advanced, hands-on skill training programmes for the youth of Tripura at NIT Agartala, NIELIT Agartala and MSME Tool Room Agartala. The courses are designed around hands-on learning, real-world problem solving and practical exposure, with a strong emphasis on outcome-based training and placements. In the first phase, 300 engineering graduates will be trained through face-to-face classroom and lab-based modules delivered by IIT faculty and industry experts.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Rangan Banerjee highlighted that Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies are no longer optional skills, but essential tools across professions. He emphasised the need for continuous upskilling and encouraged governments to expand such institutional collaborations to prepare youth for rapidly changing job markets. He appreciated Tripura’s proactive approach in bringing premier institutions like IIT Delhi into the State’s skilling landscape.
Kiran Gitte, IAS, in his address, reflected on how young people today are increasingly becoming self-reliant and digitally empowered, reducing dependence on traditional career pathways. He outlined the State Government’s initiatives such as Skill Innovation Hubs and progressive startup policies, which aim to create an enabling ecosystem for collaboration with reputed national and global institutions and for setting up regional centres of excellence in skills. The programme was also attended by Prof. Subir Kumar Saha, Project Director, IHFC IIT Delhi, and Col. Amit Oberoi, IIT Delhi
A major highlight of the event was the signing of two important Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening industry-linked skilling in Tripura.
An MoU was signed between the Directorate of Skill Development and HCL GUVI, under which 100 candidates from both engineering and non-engineering backgrounds will be trained in industry-aligned digital skills and Japanese language in Agartala. The programme will cover Deep Learning and Generative AI, UI/UX Design, Data Analytics, interview preparation and employer connects, ensuring strong industry exposure and placement opportunities. The MoU was signed by Shri Arun Prakash, Founder & CEO, HCL GUVI, along with Shri Ankur Johri, Associate Director, HCL GUVI.
Another significant MoU was signed with IBM to train Tripura’s youth in AI, Cloud Computing and Enterprise Technologies, with a special focus on Enterprise Full Stack Development. The programme will be closely integrated with industry partners and will establish dedicated training centres within the State for focused learning and measurable outcomes. The MoU was signed by Shri Devkant Aggarwal, Leader – Growth Initiatives, IBM.
With these initiatives, Tripura is steadily positioning itself as an emerging hub for advanced technology talent in the Northeast, reinforcing the vision of “Skill Tripura, Skilled India” and opening new avenues of high-quality employment for its youth.
