Agartala, 11th February 2026:  Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday lauded Tripura’s performance in implementing central rural schemes, calling it one of the best-performing states in the country.

Addressing a press conference in Agartala, Chouhan said that around 3.76 lakh houses have been completed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), achieving nearly 99 percent of the target. He described this as a significant milestone. He also noted strong progress in rural connectivity under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and said 1.08 lakh women have been empowered as “Lakhpati Didis” through self-help groups.

The Minister attended a Public Representatives’ Conference at Swami Vivekananda Maidan and inaugurated rural projects. Referring to the Viksit Bharat Gram initiative, he said guaranteed employment has been increased from 100 to 125 days, with a budget allocation of ₹1,51,282 crore. He emphasized proper fund utilization for water conservation, roads, schools, and infrastructure, with projects to be decided by Gram Sabhas.

Chouhan announced that ICAR scientists and ministry officials will assess Tripura’s soil and agro-climatic conditions to prepare a new agricultural roadmap. He highlighted crops like pineapple and lemon and stressed integrated farming to raise farmers’ incomes. Additional funds of ₹60 crore under RKVY and ₹4 crore for the Dalhan Mission have been allocated, while a proposal to connect 108 villages with roads is under consideration.
