Agartala, 12th February 2026: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today asserted that matters related to the Village Council (VC) elections remain sub judice in the Supreme Court, while accusing certain quarters of spreading confusion on the issue.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Saha indirectly referred to former Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, stressing that the state government had shown neither negligence nor reluctance in conducting the polls. He noted that elections have not been held since 2016, and the reasons for the delay are well known.
The Chief Minister alleged that “unnecessary and misleading interpretations” were being circulated to misinform the public. He clarified that Tipra Motha had approached the Supreme Court, where the matter is still under consideration.
Dr. Saha further dismissed claims that the upcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections would be held simultaneously with the VC polls. He explained that the apex court had sought the government’s response on whether both elections could be conducted together, but emphasized that no final order has yet been issued.
His remarks gain significance against the backdrop of a recent social media post by Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, who claimed that the Supreme Court had directed simultaneous ADC and VC elections.
Meanwhile, Dr. Saha announced that Tripura will soon host a Hindi conference, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah expected to attend the event during his visit to the state.
