Agartala, 15th February 2026: Residents of the Machhli area in the Longtarai Valley subdivision of Dhala District have raised concerns over the quality of a recently started road construction project. The work, initiated by the Public Works Department after years of local demand, is now under scrutiny for allegedly substandard execution.
Locals claim that the contractor, Rajib Prasad, ignored proper construction standards and applied only a minimal layer of bitumen. Even before the project’s completion, sections of the road have reportedly started to deteriorate, raising doubts about the durability and quality of the long-awaited infrastructure.
Residents expressed disappointment that, after years of hardship due to poor connectivity, the new road might not meet expectations. They have urged the local Member of District Council (MDC), Sanjay Das, to visit the site and conduct an on-the-ground inspection.
Questions have also been raised about the role of the Public Works Department in supervising the project. Some locals allege that the contractor used inferior materials to maximize profit. The administration has not yet responded to these claims, and residents are demanding a thorough investigation and appropriate action based on the findings.
