Agartala, 18th February 2026: Residents of Ward No. 5 in Barjala village, Bishramganj, have been grappling with a severe drinking water crisis for a prolonged period. Locals allege that although the area has a designated water source, the supply is unfit for consumption, leaving families, especially those entirely dependent on it in distress.
Despite repeated complaints to the concerned authorities, villagers say no permanent solution has been provided. The water quality is reportedly so poor that consuming it poses health risks. As a result, households are forced to collect water from neighbors to meet daily needs, a practice they describe as increasingly unsustainable.
A local homemaker lamented, “We don’t have drinking water. For cooking, washing, and everything else, we must fetch water from others’ homes. This cannot continue every day.” Another resident warned that with summer approaching, the situation could worsen dramatically if immediate measures are not taken.
Villagers fear that the onset of the hot season will multiply demand for water, intensifying the crisis. They are urging the administration to intervene urgently by installing new tube wells, ensuring purified drinking water, or providing alternative connections.
Community members have also cautioned that if swift action is not taken, they may be compelled to launch a larger protest. The question now remains: how quickly will the authorities respond to end the long-standing ordeal of Bishramganj’s Barjola residents?
