Tripura Gramin Bank employees stage protest over 10-point charter of demands

Agartala, 21st   February 2026 :   Employees of Tripura Gramin Bank, under the banner of the Joint Development Forum (JDF), staged a protest today in front of the bank’s headquarters, pressing for a 10-point charter of demands. The demonstrators warned that if their demands are not met within a stipulated timeframe, they will launch a statewide strike on March 16.

The protesting employees alleged that despite repeatedly raising issues with the management, most of their demands remain unresolved. They pointed out that although assurances were given earlier on several matters, nearly a year has passed without any concrete steps being taken to implement those promises.

The employees’ key demands include ensuring a healthy and dignified work environment, ending verbal intimidation, undue pressure and coercive practices, and the immediate implementation of pending benefits under the Ninth Joint Note, Twelfth Bipartite Settlement, and NABARD guidelines. They also seek an upgrade of fuel and other allowances to match those provided by sponsor bank Punjab National Bank, along with the introduction of a transparent and humane transfer policy that minimizes inter-regional transfers. In addition, the employees demand safety and nearby postings for women staff, and insist that medical grounds be considered with sensitivity in transfer decisions.

The JDF warned that failure to address these issues will trigger a second phase of agitation, culminating in the March 16 strike, which they cautioned could disrupt normal banking services across the state.
