Agartala, 23rd February 2026:    East Tripura MP Kriti Singh Debbarma visited the Gournagar RD Block in Kailashahar subdivision today to review ongoing development projects. Arriving at the block office around 2 pm, she was warmly welcomed with floral bouquets by Gournagar Panchayat Samiti Chairman Lakshi Nama and Vice Chairman Badruzzaman.

A review meeting was later held at the Panchayat Samiti hall, attended by BDO Nabarun Chakraborty, the chairman, vice chairman, and other members. The session focused on the progress of current projects, future plans, and overall development strategies for the block.

Speaking after the meeting, MP Debbarma said, “We have assessed the progress of ongoing works and discussed future initiatives. Several projects remain incomplete, but with an increased budget allocation this year, we aim to finish them quickly. Ensuring holistic development of the area is our priority.” She also inspected several schools, noting satisfactory progress in building construction, while stressing timely completion.

Vice Chairman Badruzzaman described the visit as historic, noting it was the first time an MP had directly inspected the block since its creation. He raised concerns about elephants being purchased at high prices by Reliance Group and transported to Gujarat, while traditional family ownership of elephants in Tripura is not being recognized. He also highlighted issues of inadequate veterinary facilities for elephants and food shortages caused by expanding rubber plantations.

The Panchayat Samiti submitted a seven-point demand to the MP, seeking support from her development fund. Members expressed hope that, as the elected representative of East Tripura, she would play an active role in advancing local development. Debbarma assured immediate action on some demands and promised to take up the rest with higher authorities.

Residents believe the MP’s visit will inject new momentum into Gournagar’s development process.
