Agartala, 25th February 2026:   The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) has accused the government of political vendetta following the arrest of its national president, Uday Bhanu Chhib. The Pradesh Youth Congress staged a mass sit-in protest demanding his immediate and unconditional release.

Reportedly, Delhi Police arrested Chhib early yesterday morning. The arrest came after he and other Youth Congress members raised slogans and demonstrated against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the recently held AI Impact Summit. In response, party leaders and workers gathered in front of the state Congress headquarters today to protest.

Speaking to media personnel here, Neel Kamal Saha condemned the arrests, calling them “highly deplorable.” He alleged that Chhib was targeted purely out of political revenge. “The BJP government seems to have forgotten that in a democracy, questioning, protesting, and raising one’s voice are not crimes. They are, in fact, the essence of democracy,” Saha said.

He further claimed that the detained Youth Congress activists were peacefully highlighting issues faced by the country’s youth and expressing concerns over the Prime Minister’s policies. “They were not involved in any violent activity,” he added.

Issuing a warning, Saha declared that if Chhib and other activists are not released immediately, the Youth Congress will launch a larger statewide agitation in the coming days.
