Agartala, 1st March 2026:   The family of a local resident has accused police of a mysterious inaction after land mafia members allegedly assaulted a party worker in public, yet no arrests have been made. Today, the victim’s family approached the Ramnagar police outpost again, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused.

According to the family of Vicky Ghosh, trouble began when his sister’s husband attempted to purchase land near their home. Subsequently, Vicky Ghosh, along with his two sons, Tapan Ghosh and Sudhangshu Debnath, reportedly demanded a large sum of money from the would-be buyer.

When the family refused to pay, tensions escalated. Vicky and his brother-in-law stated that they would not pay for anyone’s personal interests in the locality. Instead, they proposed collecting funds through a local club for a religious ceremony at a nearby temple. However, this suggestion was rejected by the current and former booth presidents and other local figures.

The situation turned violent on February 22, when Vicky was attacked near his home. The family alleges that the perpetrators are politically motivated and describe them as “state-backed miscreants.” Vicky sustained serious injuries in the attack. Despite filing a formal complaint, the police have yet to arrest any of the accused, who continue to roam freely in the area, causing the family to fear for their safety.

Today, the family again approached the Ramnagar police outpost to demand the immediate arrest of the attackers. Vicky’s uncle warned that if the police fail to act promptly, they may be forced to appeal directly to the Chief Minister. It remains to be seen whether the police will take decisive action against the alleged land mafia.
