Agartala, 5th March 2026: The Government of Tripura has initiated steps to ensure the effective implementation of the “PM Rahat” scheme, aimed at providing immediate medical assistance to victims of road accidents.

Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Thursday stated that the state administration is working to strengthen the system so that accident victims can receive prompt medical care without delay.

Under the scheme, individuals injured in road accidents will be swiftly transported to nearby hospitals and will be entitled to cashless medical treatment of up to ₹1.5 lakh per person.

To assess the state’s readiness, the minister chaired a high-level review meeting involving senior officials from multiple departments. The meeting was attended by secretaries of the Health and Transport departments, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, and other senior representatives from concerned agencies.

During the discussion, officials reviewed key operational aspects of the scheme, including emergency response systems, hospital preparedness, and coordination between departments. The meeting also focused on improving response time and strengthening mechanisms to ensure that accident victims receive timely medical attention.

Minister Chowdhury emphasized that strong inter-departmental coordination is essential for the smooth functioning of the scheme. He noted that close collaboration between transport authorities, healthcare services, and law enforcement agencies would help ensure that the benefits of the initiative reach victims quickly and efficiently across the state.

The initiative is expected to significantly improve emergency care for road accident victims in Tripura by guaranteeing immediate treatment and reducing delays in critical medical intervention.
