Agartala, 8th March 2026: The Vice President of India, C. P. Radhakrishnan, on Sunday commended Tripura University for its growing reputation as a dynamic centre for education, research and innovation. He made the remarks while addressing the university’s 14th convocation ceremony.

Radhakrishnan, who arrived in Tripura on Saturday, said the atmosphere at the convocation reflected the pride and sense of achievement shared by graduating students and their families.

“This is my first visit to Tripura since assuming office as the Vice President of India,” he said. “During the last two days I have travelled through the beautiful states of Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura. I am delighted to be in this land known for its rich heritage and traditions.”

He also referred to his conversation with the Governor of Tripura, Indrasena Reddy Nallu, who described the state as small in size but abundant in culture and diversity.

The Vice President highlighted Tripura’s unique cultural landscape, noting that the state beautifully combines royal history, spiritual heritage and vibrant tribal traditions. Earlier in the day, he visited the revered Tripura Sundari Temple and appreciated the ongoing development initiatives being undertaken through joint efforts of the state and central governments.

Speaking about the university’s progress, Radhakrishnan said it was encouraging to witness the institution’s steady growth in academics and research.

“It is gratifying to see Tripura University evolve into an important centre for learning and innovation. Education should not end with the award of degrees; it must continue through research that leads to meaningful innovation and societal progress,” he said.

He also acknowledged the university’s increasing contributions to scholarly research, pointing out the rise in quality publications, funded projects and efforts to build a strong culture of intellectual property creation.

According to the Vice President, the institution’s participation in national research initiatives reflects its expanding role in India’s academic ecosystem. He further noted that several faculty members from the university have earned global recognition for their research work, while many alumni have established themselves in diverse professional fields.

“I am confident that this institution will continue to produce many more remarkable success stories in the years ahead,” he added.

Radhakrishnan also emphasized the transformation taking place across the Northeast in recent years. Referring to infrastructure and connectivity improvements under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said travel within the region and to other parts of the country has become significantly easier.

“Not very long ago, travelling from Agartala to Chennai was a complicated and time-consuming journey. Today, thanks to improved connectivity and infrastructure, such travel can often be completed within the same day,” he said.
