Severe Drinking Water Crisis in Kamalpur Despite Jal Jeevan Mission Project

Agartala, 9th March 2026:      Residents of Kabirajtilla village under Uttar Kachuchhara Gram Panchayat in Kamalpur subdivision have been facing an acute drinking water crisis for nearly two years. Although a drinking water project was introduced in the village under the Central Government’s ambitious Jal Jeevan Mission, locals claim they have received little to no benefit from it.

According to villagers, the water supply machine installed under the project has been lying out of order for a long time. Despite repeated complaints, no initiative has been taken by the concerned department to repair the faulty machine.

Residents allege that they have approached the authorities several times seeking a solution, but each time they were given different excuses. At times, officials reportedly said that the previously responsible officer had been transferred and the matter would be looked into once a new officer joined. On other occasions, villagers were told that the department lacked sufficient funds to repair the machine.

As a result, many villagers are forced to travel long distances every day to collect drinking water. The situation has caused severe hardship, particularly for women and children, who bear the brunt of the daily struggle to fetch water.

Locals further claim that while the project exists on paper, it has failed to deliver any real benefits on the ground. For the people of Kabirajtilla, the promise of “tap water in every household” has now become nothing more than a slogan.

Meanwhile, public anger in the area is steadily growing as residents continue to suffer without access to a reliable source of drinking water. Villagers have urged the concerned authorities to take immediate steps to repair the system and restore the water supply at the earliest.
