Agartala, 14th March 2026: The Tripura Pradesh Congress has announced that it will contest all 28 seats in the upcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections. The party has also finalized its candidate for the Dharmanagar Assembly by-election, with the name expected to be declared shortly.
Pradesh Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha made the announcement while addressing the media personnel after a key strategy meeting at the Congress Bhavan here.
The meeting was attended by senior leaders including MLA Birajit Sinha and Shabda Kumar Jamatia, alongside other top functionaries. Saha said discussions with party leaders focused on finalizing the candidate list and outlining the roadmap for victory. He alleged that the CPI(M), by announcing its Dharmanagar candidate early, was indirectly aiding the ruling BJP. Responding to CPI(M) leader Jitendra Choudhury’s claim that Congress has no base in the hills and would fail in the ADC polls, Saha countered that “the results will speak for themselves,” adding that some CPI(M) actions were helping the BJP remain in power.
Congress MLA Birajit Sinha echoed this sentiment, stating that strong anti-BJP sentiment is sweeping across Tripura. He argued that the CPI(M) rushed to announce its candidate list after sensing Congress’s growing momentum. Sinha further criticized the Left for not consulting Congress before declaring its Dharmanagar candidate, accusing them of trying to benefit the ruling party. He also pointed to recent strains between BJP and its ally Tipra Motha, saying Congress intends to capitalize on the situation politically.
