Agartala, 17th March 2026: The District Magistrate and Collector of West Tripura has issued a strict notification prohibiting the movement of heavy motor vehicles along the embankment areas of the Howrah River, citing concerns over structural safety.
According to the official order released by the Office of the District Magistrate, West Tripura, “No heavy motor vehicles (4-wheeler, 6-wheeler, truck, tempo, bus, minibus) shall ply in the embankment areas of Howrah River and Katchakhal to prevent structural damage.” The directive has been enforced under Sections 30 and 34(b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar emphasized the urgency of the measure, stating that the decision was taken to safeguard critical river embankments from potential damage caused by heavy vehicular load. “This order shall take immediate effect,” the notification clearly mentioned.
The administration has also warned of strict enforcement. “In case of violation, the Police Officers are directed to immediately seize the vehicle and present the same before the undersigned,” the order added, indicating zero tolerance for non-compliance.
Officials from various departments, including the Superintendent of Police, Traffic authorities, and Public Works Department, have been instructed to ensure widespread awareness and strict implementation of the directive.
Residents and commuters have been urged to cooperate with the administration and adhere to the guidelines to ensure public safety and infrastructure protection in Agartala.
