Agartala, 25th March 2026:   Tripura Congress MLA Birajit Sinha Roy has written to the Airport Director of Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, raising concerns over illegal encroachment and unauthorized construction on airport land at Kailashahar in Unakoti District. He has urged the Airports Authority to take immediate corrective measures.

Although Kailashahar Airport is currently non-operational, the state government has initiated steps to revive it. In his letter, MLA Sinha highlighted multiple instances of unauthorized occupation on Airports Authority land in the area.

“Large portions of the land have been occupied, and roads have been constructed without approval. It has been observed that Advocate Sanjib Debroy, the Government Public Prosecutor, is actively filling the land and proceeding with construction of structures without proper authorization. These activities are causing public concern and dissatisfaction in Kailashahar, and the situation may escalate if not addressed promptly,” the letter stated.

MLA Sinha noted that while the matter has been reported to the local police, ultimate responsibility for action lies with the Airports Authority of India. He also pointed out that certain social events are being conducted on the premises, further complicating the situation.

He requested the airport authorities to take immediate steps to halt all illegal encroachments, stop unauthorized construction, and regain proper control over the property.
