Agartala, 6th April 2026: With the April 9 Dharmanagar Assembly by-election approaching, political parties have intensified their campaigns. On Monday, the CPI(M) staged a massive rally and public meeting in support of its candidate, Amitava Dutta. The highlight of the program was the participation of former Tripura Chief Minister and senior CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar.
The rally began around 11 a.m. from the CPI(M) party office at Noapara, Dharmanagar. Thousands of party workers and supporters joined, filling the streets with red flags. Manik Sarkar marched shoulder to shoulder with candidate Amitava Dutta.
Senior leaders including district secretary Abhijit Dey, central committee member Krishna Rakshit, and other state and district leaders also took part. The rally wound through key city roads before concluding at a public meeting on the northern bank of Kalidighi.
Presided over by district secretary Abhijit Dey, the meeting featured Manik Sarkar as the chief speaker. In his address, Sarkar launched a scathing attack on both the central and state BJP governments. He alleged that unemployment has reached record levels, law and order has collapsed, and government offices face acute staff shortages. He further claimed that ordinary citizens face obstacles even in filing complaints at police stations.
Criticizing current policies, Sarkar urged voters to ensure a decisive victory for Left Front candidate Amitava Dutta. Other speakers included women’s leader Krishna Rakshit, youth leader Amal Chakraborty, subdivision secretary Ratan Roy, and several CPI(M) legislators.
As the by-election date draws closer, the political atmosphere in Dharmanagar is heating up. The coming days will reveal how far these campaign efforts resonate with voters at the ballot box.
