LoP Demands Compensation for All Political Violence Victims Since 2018 in Tripura

Date:

Agartala, 22nd April 2026: Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury today demanded that the state government extend financial assistance and other relief measures to people who, according to him, have been affected by political violence since 2018.

His remarks came shortly after Chief Minister Manik Saha announced Rs 65 lakh in aid for BJP workers who were allegedly attacked by members of Tipra Motha Party and reportedly lost homes, shops, and other livelihoods.

Reacting to the decision, Chaudhury said that if ruling party workers can receive immediate compensation, then similar support should also be extended to all victims regardless of political affiliation.

He stated that large numbers of workers from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and other opposition parties have also faced attacks since 2018, with reports of houses and rubber gardens being vandalised and shops ransacked, besides physical assaults.

He added that the government already possesses records and memorandums documenting such incidents and should verify them before providing relief, emphasising that public funds belong to all citizens and not any single political party.

Chaudhury further stressed that a uniform rehabilitation policy would help restore confidence among affected families and reduce political tensions. He urged the administration to carry out impartial assessments and ensure that compensation is distributed based on verified damage rather than party affiliation.

He also appealed for peace and restraint across political groups, stating that continued cycles of retaliation would harm ordinary citizens and disrupt normal life in rural and urban areas of Tripura.
