Villagers block road over delayed bridge construction at Ambassa

Date:

Agartala: May 02. Residents of Banpui Bul Halam Para under Baghmara village in Ambassa subdivision staged a road blockade today, demanding immediate construction of a long-promised bridge.

For years, locals had risked their lives crossing a dilapidated hanging bridge, repeatedly repairing it themselves to ensure temporary passage. Despite multiple appeals to government departments for a permanent solution, no progress was made. Although approval for a new bridge was granted months ago and the old structure dismantled, residents allege that not a single brick has been laid for the replacement.

Villagers further questioned the fate of materials from the demolished bridge, including bricks and rods, claiming no clarity on whether they were officially deposited with the concerned department.

Frustrated by the delay, residents blocked the Ambassa-Kachuchhara road near Baghmara market from 7 a.m. onwards. As of 11:30 a.m., the protest was still continuing. Eventually, two officials from the Rural Development Department arrived at the site and assured the demonstrators that their demands would be addressed.

This incident highlights the growing discontent among rural communities over stalled infrastructure projects and the urgent need for accountability in execution.
