Agartala, 7th May 2026: Panic gripped Jubarajnagar market in North Tripura last night after a devastating fire broke out, destroying three shops and causing losses estimated at over one lakh rupees.
According to locals, the blaze erupted around 9:30 p.m. in one of the shops at Ward No. 1 of Jubarajnagar market. Within minutes, the flames spread rapidly to adjoining establishments.
Local sources confirmed that the fire completely gutted three shops — a grocery store owned by Musabbir Ali, another grocery shop belonging to Akram Hossain, and a hardware store. Large quantities of goods, cash, and essential items stored inside were reduced to ashes.
Preliminary reports suggest the fire may have originated from an electrical short circuit, though officials have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause.
Firefighters from Dharmanagar rushed to the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control. However, by the time they arrived, the intensity of the flames had already consumed the three shops entirely.
Residents described scenes of chaos as panic spread across the market. Many attempted to douse the flames themselves, but the fire’s ferocity made their efforts futile.
Authorities estimate losses amounting to several lakhs, leaving the shopkeepers devastated. The affected traders have appealed to the administration for immediate financial assistance.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief and anxiety over the locality. Officials assured that a thorough probe is underway and promised measures to prevent such disasters in the future.
