Agartala, 18th May 2026: In a significant boost to pediatric healthcare services in Tripura, the Pediatric Cardiology Outpatient Department (OPD) was formally inaugurated at the Super Specialty Block of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital on May 16 last.
The inauguration was carried out by Health Secretary Kiran Gitte of the Department of Health and Family Welfare. The launch of this specialized OPD marks a crucial step toward strengthening pediatric super-specialty care in the state, particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac ailments among children.
The newly introduced Pediatric Cardiology OPD will function every Saturday, offering advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities aimed at addressing congenital and acquired heart conditions in children. The initiative is expected to significantly reduce the need for patients to seek treatment outside the state.
Prominent dignitaries present at the inaugural ceremony included AGMC Principal Prof. Dr. Tapan Majumdar, Medical Superintendent and Head of Department Dr. Bidhan Goswami, Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. Kanak Chowdhury, and cardiologists Dr. A.S. Trivedi and Dr. Rakesh Das. Several Heads of Departments and faculty members also attended the event.
Officials described the launch as a milestone in Tripura’s healthcare landscape, reflecting the government’s continued commitment to providing integrated, accessible, and modern cardiac care services for children across the state.
