Sudhangshu, officials reach Aizawl for NE Fisheries review meet on May 25; Projects worth Rs 32 cr to be unveiled

Agartala, 24th May 2026 : . State Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das, Fisheries Director Neeraj Kumar Chanchal and Secretary Deepa D Nair arrived in Aizawl on Sunday afternoon to participate in the “Regional Review Meeting: Northeastern Region 2026,” scheduled to be held on May 25.

The high-level meeting, organized by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (MoFAH&D), will bring together representatives from eight northeastern states to review the progress of fisheries, livestock and dairy development schemes across the region.

Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, popularly known as Lalan Singh, will chair the meeting. Union Ministers of State S. P. Singh Baghel and George Kurian are also expected to attend.

The regional review will witness participation from Tripura, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim. Senior officials from the Centre and state governments will join deliberations in both physical and hybrid modes.

The meeting aims to assess the implementation of major schemes related to fisheries, dairy and animal husbandry, while also formulating future strategies for infrastructure growth, livelihood generation and farmer welfare in the Northeast. Discussions will focus on sustainable development, scientific farming techniques, cooperative expansion and technology-driven rural transformation.

Several new initiatives will be launched during the programme, including a baseline survey for strengthening Multipurpose Dairy Cooperative Societies (MDCS), an awareness film on African Swine Fever and a booklet on scientific pig farming practices. The event will also feature the launch of MULCO Cow Ghee and the inauguration of a Mizo Café and an FPO office-cum-sale outlet.

Additionally, fisheries projects worth around Rs 32.15 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) will be inaugurated and foundation stones laid during the event.
