Tripura Switches to Full Five-Day Office Schedule, Announces 81 Government Vacancies

Date:

Agartala, 25th May 2026:  Tripura government has decided to implement a complete five-day working system in all state government offices, making every Saturday and Sunday an official holiday. Along with the change in office schedules, the state cabinet has also approved recruitment for 81 vacant posts across multiple departments.

The decisions were taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. Briefing reporters, Cabinet spokesperson Sushanta Chowdhury said government offices will now function from 9:30 am to 6 pm between Monday and Friday. Earlier, only the second and fourth Saturdays were observed as holidays.

According to the government, the revised work structure is part of a broader initiative to reduce fuel consumption amid rising international crude oil prices. The cabinet also directed departments to hold most official meetings virtually, reduce large-scale gatherings, promote the use of electric vehicles, develop charging infrastructure, and limit unnecessary vehicle movement by officials.

The cabinet further cleared the recruitment of 26 Lower Division Clerks under the Public Works Department through the Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT). Of these posts, three have been reserved for ex-servicemen.

In another major decision, approval was given to fill 50 Group-C posts in the Information and Cultural Affairs Department through direct recruitment. The vacancies include positions such as translator, reporter, script writer, cultural assistant, folk artist, assistant librarian, assistant photographer and LDC.

Additionally, the Finance Department received approval to recruit five Inspectors for the Small Savings division.
