Agartala, 28th May 2026: Anganwadi workers and helpers in Tripura are preparing to launch a major protest movement over long-standing grievances.A meeting was held Thursday at the Chhatra-Yuva Bhavan where the workers and helpers resolved to intensify their agitation. Speaking to the press, organization leader and lawyer Purushottam Roy Barman said that nearly 20,000 Anganwadi workers and helpers across the state are under severe pressure due to increasing workloads but continue to be denied basic entitlements.
He highlighted that the workers have not received their allowances for the past two months, making it difficult for them to manage household expenses or even commute to Anganwadi centers. Despite years of service, their honorarium has not been revised in the last seven to eight years. They are also denied gratuity benefits despite a High Court ruling in their favor.
Roy Barman stressed that the workers have no leave provisions and are compelled to work under mounting burdens without recognition as government employees. Their demand is for immediate recognition as government staff, with all associated benefits and facilities. The leadership announced that preparations are underway for a larger movement, declaring that they are ready to go “as far as necessary” to secure their rights.
