Agartala, 3rd June 2026: In a significant step towards promoting rural entrepreneurship and women’s economic empowerment, the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Fermented Fish Producer Group (PG) was inaugurated on Wednesday at Sonatala Gram Panchayat under Khowai RD Block in Khowai district.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Khowai Zila Parishad Sabhadhipati Aparna Singha Roy (Datta), Additional District Magistrate Abhedananda Baidya, Khowai RD Block Vice Chairman Uttam Adhikari, Block Development Officer Aniruddha Das, District Development Facilitator Bijoy Ghosh, along with officials of the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) and social activists.
The newly formed Producer Group consists of 30 women members from Bharati Village Organization under Nabajagaran Cluster Level Federation (CLF). The initiative has been financially supported by TRLM, while technical training has been provided by the Fisheries Department, Khowai, to equip the members with the necessary skills for fish processing and marketing.
The group will engage in the production, processing, and marketing of fermented fish and dry fish products, creating sustainable income-generating opportunities for rural women. The initiative is expected to strengthen local livelihoods, promote value-added fish products, and encourage self-employment among women in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries highlighted the importance of collective enterprises in enhancing the socio-economic condition of rural communities and empowering women through entrepreneurship.
The establishment of the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Fermented Fish Producer Group is being viewed as a milestone in fostering self-reliance and economic independence among women while contributing to the rural economy of Khowai district.
