MLA’s surprise inspection exposes alleged irregularities at Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital

Date:

Agartala, 6th June 2026:  Allegations of administrative lapses, staff absenteeism, and irregularities in healthcare services at Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital came under sharp scrutiny on Saturday after local MLA and Chief Whip of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Kalyani Saha Roy, conducted a surprise inspection of the hospital.

The visit followed a series of complaints reportedly received over an extended period regarding the functioning of the hospital. Allegations ranged from poor healthcare services and unauthorized staff absenteeism to concerns over the management of the Patient Welfare Fund, shortage of essential medicines, vaccine-related irregularities, and the alleged activities of touts within the hospital premises.

During the inspection, the MLA reportedly found several employees absent from duty without prior authorization. Among those allegedly absent was Operation Theatre in-charge Dr. Samir Debbarma. Sources said the inspection revealed significant shortcomings in the hospital’s administration and day-to-day operations.

The MLA also took note of allegations surrounding the lapse of approximately ₹56 lakh from the hospital’s Patient Development Fund and sought clarification regarding claims of diversion of medicines and vaccines. Questions were reportedly directed at Sub-Divisional Health Officer Raja Jamatia, who, according to sources, could not provide satisfactory explanations on several issues raised during the visit.

Expressing concern over the situation, Kalyani Saha Roy contacted Health Department Secretary Dr. Debasree Debbarma from the hospital premises and apprised her of the matter. She further stated that the issues would be brought to the attention of Tripura Chief Minister and Health Minister Dr. Manik Saha.

Speaking to reporters, the MLA remarked that “anarchy is practically reigning at the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital,” expressing dissatisfaction over the attendance and performance of certain staff members. She also addressed concerns regarding ambulance availability, noting that an ambulance had earlier been provided through her MLA development fund. If further requirements exist, she assured that additional arrangements would be explored through government or MLA funding.

The findings of the surprise inspection have raised serious questions about the management of the hospital. Residents and patients are now looking towards the Health Department for corrective measures and accountability. Whether the concerns highlighted during the inspection will lead to administrative action and improvements in healthcare delivery remains to be seen.
