Agartala, 13th June 2026: Dharmanagar town in North Tripura has once again been shaken by a daring burglary, sparking fear among residents. Miscreants broke into a house in the middle-class residential area near Office Tilla and Jail Road, escaping with cash, gold, and other valuables.
Homeowner Tapan Debnath reported that he and his wife had been staying at their daughter’s home in Agartala for medical reasons over the past 25–30 days. On returning Saturday morning, he discovered the doors and windows broken and the interiors ransacked.
According to Debnath, the burglars took advantage of the vacant house and stole four ceiling fans, three gas cylinders, approximately Rs 40,000 in cash, and gold ornaments weighing one tola. The total loss is estimated to be worth several lakhs.
Police from Dharmanagar station rushed to the scene upon receiving the complaint, inspected the house, and recorded the owner’s statement.
Meanwhile, repeated incidents of theft across the town have heightened concerns about public safety. Local residents allege that despite frequent burglaries, police have failed to recover stolen goods or apprehend the culprits. Questions are now being raised about the role of the administration in ensuring security.
