Agartala, 14th June 2026: In a major success against drug trafficking, Sonamura Police seized 129.8 kilograms of dry cannabis during a special anti-narcotics operation conducted in the Kamalnagar area under Sonamura Police Station.
According to police sources, acting on confidential information, a large team of police personnel and TSR jawans, led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tapas Das, carried out a late-night raid on Saturday at the residence of a suspected drug trafficker. However, the accused reportedly fled the house after learning about the police operation.
During the search, police discovered three drums buried beneath the floor of a room inside the house. Upon opening the drums, officers recovered a total of 129.8 kg of dry cannabis, which was subsequently seized and transported to Sonamura Police Station.
Police estimate the market value of the seized contraband to be approximately ₹26 lakh.
A manhunt has been launched to apprehend the absconding suspect, while investigators are also probing the possible involvement of other individuals linked to the illegal drug trade.
Speaking about the operation, OC Tapas Das said that the police will continue their crackdown on drug trafficking and narcotics-related activities. He emphasized that strict measures are being taken to protect society from the growing menace of drugs.
The seizure has created considerable interest and concern in the locality, and further investigation is underway.
