PCC leaders meet CRPF DIG over alleged lathi charge, misconduct by Assistant Commandant

Date:

Agartala, 16th June 2026:   A Tripura Congress delegation on Tuesday met the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the CRPF in Agartala, demanding disciplinary action against an Assistant Commandant accused of allegedly ordering a lathi charge and using abusive language against Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress workers, including women, during a protest over NEET-related issues.

The incident reportedly took place on Monday during a Youth Congress demonstration in Agartala. According to Congress leaders, security forces used baton charge on protesters, and a video later circulated showing an Assistant Commandant allegedly using derogatory language toward demonstrators.

The delegation, which included Pradesh Congress Committee president Asish Kumar Saha, MLA Sudip Roy Barman, and Youth Congress president Neel Kamal Saha, submitted a memorandum to the CRPF DIG seeking action.

Speaking later, MLA Sudip Roy Barman alleged that the protest was peaceful and that the use of force was unprovoked. He also objected to the alleged language used against women protesters, calling it unacceptable and demanding strict disciplinary measures.

The Congress leaders further claimed that no proper order was issued for the use of force and that they have filed an FIR against the officer concerned. They said the CRPF DIG assured them that the matter would be examined and appropriate action would be taken.
