Allegations of road alignment change spark tension at South Rangutia

Date:

Agartala, 18th June 2026:   A controversy has erupted over the construction of a new road in the South Rangutia area of Rangutia village under West Rangutia Gram Panchayat in Bamutia Block and Assembly constituency. Local residents have alleged that attempts are being made to change the approved alignment of the road, contrary to the PWD work order, allegedly to benefit a section of influential locals.

According to residents, the sanctioned road was planned from near the house of Akali Mandal to the residence of Achalmani Biswas. However, they claim that some individuals have started efforts to divert the route towards their own properties, with soil dumping for the alternative alignment already underway.

The issue triggered protests among villagers, who demanded that the road be built as per the approved design. On Tuesday, the local MLA inspected the site along with residents and directed that the work should follow the sanctioned plan and work order.

Villagers have urged the administration and concerned department to intervene, alleging that personal interests are being prioritized over public welfare. No official response has been received from the concerned department or those accused of attempting the change.
